Q. Can the CS 18 soldering iron run straight from mains electricity 240V socket

A. Hi Martin, thank you for your question. This is not a mains iron, it is a 24V version which requires a transformer like 85-0915. For a mains powered Antex iron please consider a complete package like 85-1145.
