Soldering

Soldering is the join at the heart of electronics, and this range covers everything needed to make it well: soldering irons and temperature-controlled stations, solder and flux, desoldering tools, tips and accessories. Rapid supplies the school and college workshop, the maker's bench and the production and repair line alike, from a first learner's iron through to stations for daily professional use.

Choosing soldering equipment

What do I need to start soldering?

At minimum a soldering iron or station, solder, and a way to keep the tip clean; most benches then add a stand, desoldering tool and basic hand tools. A temperature-controlled station is worth it for anything beyond occasional use, as it holds a steady tip temperature for reliable joints. For choosing between models, our guide to soldering equipment walks through what to look for, and the electronic assembly kits range is a good way to practise the skill.

Should I use leaded or lead-free solder?

Lead-free solder is the standard choice for schools and for any RoHS-compliant work, and is the safer option in a teaching environment. Leaded solder is easier to work with at lower temperatures and still used in some repair and specialist contexts. Whichever you choose, good ventilation or fume extraction matters — solder flux fumes should not be breathed in, particularly in a classroom.

Can you supply a classroom, workshop or production line?

Yes. The range runs from class sets of learner irons through to professional stations and the consumables — solder, tips and flux — that all of them get through. Education pricing and class-pack quantities apply for schools and colleges, and bulk ordering keeps a workshop or production line stocked.
