The Rohde & Schwarz R&S®NPA701 Compliance Tester is a high-precision power analyser designed for AC/DC load, standby power and energy consumption measurements, which delivers performance and compliance protocols in line with IEC 62301 and EN 50564 for power consumption and EN 61000-3-2 for EMC harmonic emission testing. It offers a wide measurement range from 50 µW to 12 kW, it combines 0.05% basic accuracy, 16-bit voltage and current resolution, a 500 ksamples/s sampling rate and DC to 100 kHz bandwidth, making it suitable for demanding laboratory, R&D and production test applications.
Users who are not familiar with the official standard procedures can be confident that they are performing compliance tests correctly and that the results are valid. The R&S NPA701 is the only power analyser in its class that does not require a separate PC to perform compliance tests.
In harmonic analysis, the NPA701 compliance tester graphically displays up to the 50th harmonic with a logarithmic amplitude scale. The user configurable, dual channel trend chart function for U, I, P, S, Q and F is unique in this class of instruments.
Its QVGA colour display (320 × 240 pixel) simultaneously displays up to 10 user configurable measurement results with a refresh rate of 10 measurements per second. The instrument has a basic accuracy of 0.05%. Signals are acquired from DC to 100 kHz at a sampling rate of 500 sample/s. Current and voltage are displayed with 16 bit resolution. The logging function lets users store measured data with a timestamp in .CSV format for a nearly unlimited period. Screen content can also be saved to a USB flash drive anytime at the push of a button. A PASS/FAIL function lets users monitor numerous measurement results. An additional sensor input for a current probe or shunt expands the instrument's current measurement range as required.
The NPA701instrument has wizards for the IEC62301 (standby), EN50564 (extended standby) and EN61000-3-2 (harmonic current for EMC, CE approval) standards, enabling autonomous measurements without a PC.

Remote control of the instrument is possible via the Ethernet or USB interface. The virtual COM port and the test and measurement class (TMC) are supported for communications via USB. Remote control commands are completely based on the SCPI standard. Cost-free driver packages for LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI and IVI.net are also available, allowing the R&S®NPA instruments to be integrated quickly and easily into existing systems.
