I make up lots of 12 volt logic circuits which operate small relays to control the mains.[An old fashioned way of separating mains from logic, but very simple and reliable.] By placing a 12 volt LED across each relay coil you can see instantly if the circuit sequence and timing are correct. I use a different colour for each relay.
