Q. do you need a series resistor with this component? If so, how big?

A. Hi Paul. Thank you for your question. If the led is being run at anything over 3.5 vdc then a resistor will be required, the size of the resistor will depend on the voltage that they are using: Ohms law will apply to the calculation.
