The IR-260-8S is a non-contact thermometer ideal for measuring the surface temperature of hot, hard-to-reach, or moving objects, using emitted infrared energy.
The thermometer has a temperature range of -30°C to +260°C. Power is supplied by a 9V battery.

As with all new purchases of electronic items, I familiarise myself with all the controls and open the battery compartment to see how easy it is to replace the battery. After doing so the meter would not function, so I removed and reinserted the battery and it started working again. I repeated the process of battery removal and reinsertion a few times and the unit would intermittently work and not work following this procedure. I suspect that there is a dry joint on the battery connecting lead either inside the unit or at the battery connector. It seems to be functioning now, so I am leaving it well alone for for the time being. The only other criticism I can think of apart from the above fault in my unit, is the actual battery connector itself, I would much rather prefer a rigid plastic connector instead of the ubiquitous cheap flexible plastic type employed in this and most other consumer products with a PP3 9volt supply.
