This copper Leslie's cube apparatus has sides with different surface finishes: dull black, bright black, white and bright. It is ideal for use in experiments to show how objects emit and absorb heat.

In use, the apparatus is filled with water which is maintained at boiling point by a low Bunsen burner flame. Infra-red sensors, etc., can be used to compare the relative radiant heat output from each of the four faces.
