Q. Do we need to connect a variable resistor or potentiometer to act as a volume control?
A. Hi Greg, thank you for your question. The volume would be controlled via the music source, there is no input for a volume control.

Q. is there a potentiometer for volume control? if yes, what type and value is it? Many thanks!
A. Hi Thomas, thank you for your question. There are many different values used in different amplifier designs normally Logarithmic in taper action and span from 5-500K in value, for stereo you will need a ganged type (one for each channel). This amplifier kit is designed without volume control as it is the power output stage and the volume control is normally in the pre-amp stage in this case relying on the output level of the connected device such as a smart phone or MP3 player. If you need an additional control something like 65-1460 could be used.
