The Adafruit HUZZAH CC3000 Wi-Fi shield connects your Arduino or Orangepip to the Internet using only 4 x GPIOs in SPI mode for fast data exchange. The CC3000 interface does all the heavy lifting for 802.11b/g communications, handling security including WPA and WPA2 encryption. By keeping the antenna layout to the manufacturer approved reference design it is FCC emission compliant, further standards compliance may be required if you are developing a commercial product. The Wi-Fi shield has a built-in TCP/IP stack, a BSD socket interface, TCP and UDP in both client and server modes and up to 4 concurrent sockets. It can connect to access points but it can't operate as an access point. Claimed range is as good as a typical Smartphone. Adafruit supply a free library and example code for you to download. The shield is compatible with the Arduino Uno, Mega, Leonardo/Micro, but not the Due.

Supplied with a fully assembled Wi-Fi shield, plus 1 x strip of male header and a 2 x 3 female ICSP header for you to solder on if your project needs them. Please note that the shield is not supplied with an Arduino.
