Rapid helps give students a 'Flying Start'
If there's one thing a student fresh to university needs - other than a good hangover cure - it is a little help with their learning expenses. This is even more essential in technical subjects where some resources can be prohibitively expensive.

For the last few years Coventry University have run a "Flying Start" initiative, in which key resources are given away free to new undergraduates. In preparation for this year's event Rapid worked closely with the university's Faculty of Computing and Engineering to offer a range of products which would be suitable for the faculty's courses. The products included Raspberry Pi kits, Makeblock mBot Ranger robotics kits, breadboards and safety wear. Rapid were delighted to be awarded the tender, which became a very significant order for Rapid, with 260 Makeblock mBot Rangers ordered alone.

Rapid’s in-house kitting team assembled the different kits, with a specific kit tailored to each of the three academic years that would be receiving them. Education Business Development Manager James Haley (pictured, right) attended the Flying Start event during Coventry University's Welcome Festival in early October, and handed out nearly 500 kits in all. Students were also given access to Rapid's technical support services should they require it during their studies.

Farzana Aslam, Associate Head of Student Experience at Coventry University, said: "This is the second year that we have worked with Rapid on the Flying Start programme. We love the way that they make it an enjoyable experience for students and staff alike. The staff at Rapid worked very hard to supply the resources students needed in significant quantities, at prices that the university found to be exceptionally competitive. The students love the event and it wouldn't be the success it is without the help of companies like Rapid. "

"I thank James Haley in particular for all his efforts and we look forward to working with Rapid again next year."
