On the 2, 3 and 4 Series, bandwidth and features are set by software licence. That's what the option codes on our listings mean: 4-BW-350 is a 350MHz 4 Series, while 3-MSO adds digital channels and 3-SA3 extends the spectrum analyser to 3GHz. A 3 Series MDO bought at 500MHz can be taken to 1GHz later without replacing it.
So size for today's signals with headroom. Choose at least three to five times the highest frequency you need to see. For digital edges, start from 0.35 divided by the rise time. TBS models are fixed at purchase, so pick a licensable series if RF or mixed-signal work is likely.

Tektronix questions we're often asked
Do Tektronix oscilloscopes come with probes?
Yes, a passive probe for every analogue channel. High-speed, differential and current measurements need an active or current probe. The 3 and 4 Series accept TekVPI probes, which the scope recognises and powers automatically.
Can I add digital channels to a 4 Series B?
Yes. Every input is a FlexChannel, so connecting a TLP058 logic probe turns it into eight digital channels. You can mix analogue and digital inputs to suit the circuit.
Who can buy the EDU versions?
EDU models are designed for teaching labs and are normally supplied to schools, colleges and universities. If you're equipping a whole lab, talk to us about volume orders.
