The Tascam DR-40 is a digital 4-track audio recorder that captures high quality audio via its adjustable stereo condenser microphones. XLR and line inputs allow the connection of external microphones for remote recording and the microphones can be converted from an AB configuration to an XY configuration in order to adjust the recording to a sound source. High quality microphone amplifiers provide phantom power for external microphones, facilitating recording quality of up to 96kHz with 24-bit resolution.
Additional features that make this recorder suitable for many types of recording situation include: built-in reverb effect that can simulate different size halls and other reverb types. The overdub mode allows the new recording of a passage and Dual Recording can record the signal twice - at normal and low level. The optimum input level is set by peak reduction circuitry and there is a function to capture the 2 seconds of signal prior to the record button being pressed.
