Produced under license from Fuji, this lead-free 5-element solder contains
tin (Sn), copper (Cu), silver (Ag), nickel (Ni) and germanium (Ge). The trace
addition of nickel and germanium increases the fluidity of the solder and
improves it's wettability by reducing oxidisation on the surface. It produces
bright, smooth fillets without shrink cracks or hot tears.
Trace addition of nickel produces less shorts and no shrinkage defects
I've used Rapid branded solder before and had no problem, but my sceptical brain always wanted to know if I was missing out on some hidden features somehow so I tried 'branded' solder. I don't usually like own brand products, I always somehow feel they are inferior, but Rapid must have this made by someone reputable. You believe that the brands must be better, that's what they do, it must be good, right? The truth is, they just weren't as good. The flux left behind a black mess where as the Rapid brand solder leaves a clear residue and produces clean, bright joints that wet and flow very easily. The price isn't massively different, but the benefits of the Rapid solder over the branded solders outweigh the difference.
