Founded in 1962 by Dr. Felix Zandman and Alfred P. Slaner, Vishay Components was named after the village in Lithuania where relatives of Dr. Zandman and Mr. Slaner had perished during the Holocaust. Through a series of key acquisitions Vishay has grown into one of the world's leading suppliers of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components. The Vishay components family include the products formerly manufactured by BC Components.

BC (Beyschlag Centralab) Components grew to become the leading European manufacturer of metal film resistors. Their innovations included cylindrical metal film SMD resistors (MELF resistors), Mini-MELF resistors, and thin film flat chip resistors. BC also developed a range of aluminium capacitors with industry-leading temperature tolerances, earning the status of preferred supplier to many of the world's leading electronics companies.

Vishay acquired BC Components in 2002, assuring the market presence of the brand and maintaining BC's tradition of excellence and product innovation. The Vishay capacitor range includes metal film resistors, metallised polyester capacitors, disc ceramic capacitors and suppression capacitors. The Vishay resistor and potentiometer range includes thin film chip resistors, metal film resistors, metal film power resistors, precision and multiturn potentiometers.
