Pickering Electronics is a relay designer and manufacturer that takes a hugely innovative approach to its products. The company not only uses its own customised equipment to manufacture its reed relays, but has many unique features in the construction of its parts.

The Pickering range includes surface mount, Single-in-Line (SIL) and Dual-in-Line (DIL) reed relays for high voltage switching, low thermal EMF, direct drive from CMOS, RF switching and other specialist applications. It is for the benefit of its customers that the company has developed its SoftCenter ® technology, which uses a soft inner material to significantly reduce the mechanical stress on the sensitive glass to metal seal of the reed switch capsule in order to maximize the life and performance of the part. The former-less coil construction dispenses with the more usual coil supporting bobbin releasing more room for the valuable operating coil winding.

As a result, with up to 50% more space created for the coil, Pickering's reed relays achieve very high coil resistance figures. The magnetic efficiency is further enhanced by the integral mu-metal magnetic screen which also allows Pickering to manufacture some of the smallest reed relays currently available. This magnetic screening also allows the parts to be mounted side-by-side without any issues due to magnetic interaction between parts.
