This Telemecanique XCSR series RFID safety switch is designed for applications where personnel protection is required. The basic application is for monitoring the position of a movable safety guard to prevent hazardous situations from occurring when the safety guard is opened.
The XCSR RFID safety switch is a contactless system that consists of a microprocessor-controlled solid state switch with PNP outputs, and a transponder in a separate housing. The switch is mounted on the fixed part of the safety guard and the transponder on the moveable part. There is no physical contact between the transponder and the switch - a radio-frequency signal is used for communication between them. The switch and the transponder are paired during manufacture with a unique code.
When the transponder enters the radio frequency field generated by the switch (by closing a guard for example), the switch detects the transponder and reads the data in the transponder's memory. If the code is correct, the switch turns on, allowing the machine to operate.
If the transponder is moved outside the field generated by the switch (by opening a guard for example) the switch turns off, stopping the machine.
