This Wind Turbine model can be used to carry out a wide range of experiments with wind power. The blades of the turbine can be easily adjusted, attached and removed. This allows students to investigate the effects of changing the number, pitch, size and shape of the blades. Some of the effects can be quite counter-intuitive and will provoke students into thinking and discussing the concepts of energy and power.

The turbine blades are made of corriflute plastic. Some pre-cut blades are included, but it is also possible to cut new blades of different shapes and sizes. The blades can be attached and removed simply by pushing them on and off the posts on the turbine hub.

  • Corriflute plastic blades
  • DC output

Q. Well then, would it keep a mobile 'phone topped up ?
A. Hi Stuart, thank you for your question. It is only designed as a display model, it will out voltage dependent on wind speed, it may trickle charge but we suspect it would not really charge a mobile phone unless in a very windy area. Please see the data sheet.

Q. Could I run a wind turbine to make enough electricty to charge a mobility scooter, 2 12 volt batteries
A. Hi Anne, thank you for your question. No this would not really produce enough current or voltage to charge a large battery in any considerable time. It is designed for demonstration purposes.
