The micro:bit is the low cost computer designed to get children started with coding and embedded computing. It also has a more serious aim of addressing the skills shortage in the technology sector.
Simply choose your programming language – from the visual Javascript and Microsoft Block Editor to the popular text-based editor Python – and start coding. Make the integrated 25 red LEDs flash a message, use the buttons to control games, detect motion or interact with other devices. Programmes can be downloaded via a USB cable or Bluetooth 4.0.
There are a huge range of projects and online tutorials for micro:bit users. You can use the micro:bit to make a robotic or a musical instrument, create a Pokémon Go Step Counter or take part in the BBC micro:bit Lego Challenge.
You can now order a micro:bit from Rapid – either just the board itself or a kit which also includes a USB cable, battery holder and batteries.
