Using this jack model, students can lift a heavy object, such as a pile of books, by applying a small amount of force to one of the four smaller cylinders. They can adjust the mechanical advantage by using different input cylinders.

The apparatus can also be used to demonstrate Boyle's Law using air or other gases.
