This is a top soldering iron. It heats up and stabilises quickly and it has enough thermal capacity for all normal electronics joints. It melts Lead-free solder (85-6614 recommended) with no difficulty, using normal No 7 tips. Dont use No. 8 tips as they get too hot and wear out quickly. We have used these for many years with very little trouble.
