Proud showing for UK teams at VEX World Championships
Four teams from the UK joined thousands of pupils from across the globe
to compete at the 2015 VEX Robotics World Championships in Louisville, Kentucky, performing commendably and doing their country and schools proud.
The highest ranked British team were 'System 32 VEX' from Highgate School in London, who
finished 38th out of 90 teams in the High School Engineering division – and also won a prestigious 'Teamwork' award. 'Virus Robotics' (right), an independent team formerly of East Barnet School were ranked 4th in the Science division after
the first day, but could not quite maintain their 100% record
and eventually won five and lost five of their ten matches to finish 39th overall. One place lower in the Science division were 'Stanway STEM Club' from Stanway School in Colchester. Also representing Colchester were Team R.O.U.S.E, former students of the Gilberd School, who finished 73rd in the Technology division.
These were the final results of the UK teams:
'System 32 VEX' , Highgate School 38th High School Engineering Division
'Virus Robotics', Independent 39th High School Science Division
'Stanway STEM Club', Stanway School 40th High School Science Division
'Team R.O.U.S.E', Independent 73rd High School Technology Division
The overall winners were teams from schools in the US, China, New Zealand and Singapore.
One of the highlights of the World Championships is the launch of the
following year’s VEX Competition Game, which in 2015-16 is called
‘Nothing But Net’. First impressions suggest the game challenge teams to design their robots so that they propel balls into nets like a catapult.
Schools competing in VEX competitions use the Competition Kits.
These and a wide range of VEX products, accessories, components and
software is available from Rapid, including kit bundles which include
free CPD days, Competition Fields and Competition Days.
