Q. Would this LED need a heat sink?
A. Hi Josiah, thank you for your question. This LED would benefit from being used with a heat sink as they will get very hot, a heat sink would extend the life and make them work more efficiently.
A 3W LED that features a high luminous flux with super energy efficient operation.
Suitable applications for this LED includes: reading lights, portable lighting, security/bollard/garden, traffic signalling and beacons, signage, etc.
Depending on the application for which it is used, this product may require an additional heat sink.

Q. Do I need a current limiting resistor when using this LED? What value would be appropriate?
A. Hi Derek. Thank you for your question. The equation to incorporate different supply voltages is the supply voltage minus the LED forward voltage (in volts) divided by the LED forward current (in amps) equals the value of the resistor required to drop the voltage known also as a current limiting resistor. Example for 12V on this LED would require a 7W 12ohm resistor we list a 12ohm 10W on 62-8070.
