Q. What gauge of wire can the probe clip onto - the wire under test that is not the wire leading to the testing equipment?

A. Hi Kim. Thank you for your question. These insulation piercing probes are designed to accept a standard 4mm banana plug and as such the plug used will determine the gauge of the wire used.
