Wearing facemasks whilst out shopping to be made compulsory
From Friday 24th July wearing face coverings in shops and supermarkets in the UK is to be made mandatory to fight the spread of Coronavirus reports the BBC. Police will be given the power to enforce this with fines of up to £100 for anyone failing to comply.
Currently, they are compulsory on public transport in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland - with the Welsh government set to enforce the same measure from 27th July.
These latest regulations in retail environments follow behind Scotland where it is already compulsory to wear face coverings in shops.
As the UK remains in the grip of this deadly pandemic such measures are vital to prevent a second wave from occurring.
It is important to remember the primary purpose of a face covering is to protect others; to stop the spread of the virus from someone who may be carrying it but who does not display symptoms.
Facemasks must be put on in-line with good hand hygiene either washing hands first or using an antibacterial gel.
