Q. Does the tuning dial actually work, or is it just for show?
A. Hi Lee. Thank you for your question. According to page 14 in the data sheet the tuning can be adjusted by either the scan button or potentiometer PT2 but does need to be modified to use this, please see the data sheet for instructions.

Good Kit

I have built two of these, and both worked well. You may need to play with the coils in order to get the full FM range. On one kit I actually had to reduce the number of turns of one of the coils. I fitted a socket connected to the antenna so I could connect an external longer antenna which improves reception. Also if you connect a HiFi line input across the volume control it sounds really great. Looking to buy another one shortly.

Nice kit

This is a relatively easy kit to construct with the satisfaction of having something I constructed giving very reasonable results. The PCB is of high quality but somewhat compact. Soldering novices need to take care as some components are quite proximal to each other. I have built 2 of these kits both giving good results. The manual included is written in German but Rapid have an English version on their website. The case is stiff cardboard with a magnetic clasp closure and with pre formed slots for tuning and volume controls and speaker. The case details an old radio; but the tuning scale is for effect only. The retractable aerial is on the small side and held in place by a cardboard insert and adhesive pad which I augmented with some tape. In synopsis this is a straightforward and rewarding kit to build, ideal for someone starting out on construction or revising the hobby.

I was very impressed with this little kit. Easy to build, works well and looks good. I just wish a longer antenna was supplied then it would get 5 stars.
