Cable Assembly: Power tools

The heat gun is the power tool for cable management. You will need it for shrinking cable tubing or heatshrink for the purpose of terminations, repairs or labelling. Heat guns can also be used to strip paint and lacquer, speed up the curing of adhesives, testing thermostats, thawing locks or melting soft solder.

Heat guns are a much safer option for general DIY use than blow torches for their provision of instantaneous heat that can be turned off and on without a naked flame. Most heat guns have a minimum temperature of 49°C but usually have two or three temperature settings. 300°C or 350°C is commonly used for work with cable and heatshrink.
