11 October 2012 Question by: Rapid Customer
Q. I am running a keypad door lock circuit on a 6v supply, as the decade counter that I am using does not allow any larger current. BUT the mechanism I want to use is a solenoid, which needs a higher voltage. (min 12V) Am I right in thinking this product will do the job of STEPPING-UP the current? (This is for a GCSE project ) If not any Ideas?
A. Hi Tom, thanks for your question. This will only work with mains voltage, so it is not really suitable as you probably also require a DC output and this is designed for AC voltage only. Something like a 47-3292 would be more suitable as this works on DC voltage and will step up the 6 volt output to allow a steady 12VDC output, and would be more suitable. https://www.rapidonline.com/L7812cv-12v-1a-Voltage-Regulator-st-47-3292/
