Weller's parent company, Cooper Hand Tools, celebrates its 175th anniversary in 2008.
In 1833 Charles and Elias Cooper opened a small iron foundry in Mt Vernon, Ohio, announcing their new venture to the world in a small advert in the local newspaper. It is now one of the five oldest companies in the United States, with a flourishing European division.
Weller was established in Besigheim, Germany by Carl C. Weller in 1958, and incorporated into the Cooper family of industries in 1970. Throughout its history Weller have introduced products at the forefront of soldering technology. Its innovations have included the Magnastat® controlled soldering pencil in 1976, and the temperature-controlled soldering station for highly sensitive components in 1983
