15 December 2017 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 55-1904
Q. Can these be placed in series with a 9v supply, and if so how many?
A. Hi W Sharkey, thank you for your question. As these have the control chip in the lens they need to each have a 4.5V feed. If you put two in series they do not operate properly. At 20mA and 9V you would need a 225 ohm resistor for each LED, the nearest value is 220 ohm 1/4W carbon which will be fine like 62-0354.

11 August 2015 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 55-1904
Q. I am working on water feature for my garden using Laminar Water Jet with rainbow leds to illuminate the water bead. I am prototyping at present. I want to use 3 rainbow Leds that meet in a block which is attached to my fibre optic cable (5mm clear acrylic rod). I believe the rainbow LED (55-1904) has its own internal resistor for protection. So my question. If I want to use a 9V supply to power the three LEDs, do they need any other resistors? If so what value should I use and will they require one each? Cheers
A. Hi Alan, thank you for your question. The LEDs do not have any built in resistors but will work on 3 volts each so 3 LEDs in series will work fine at 9 volts.

08 August 2015 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 55-1904
Q. Dear Sir, I want to run 5mm colour changing Rainbow LEDs on 230Volt AC/50Hz.I want to put 6 LEDs in series. How many such series can be incorporated in a circuit.Kindly suggest me with a circuit.
A. Hi Ramakrishnan, thank you for your question. Connecting these LEDs to the mains directly will be potentially dangerous. Also the LEDs require DC current. We would recommend stepping the mains down to a safer voltage of 24V and 6 in series will work at this voltage.

19 August 2013 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 55-1904
Q. can i connect say 2 to a 9 volt battery, will they be ok or will they need a resistor, if so which one???
A. Hi Nicki. Thank you for your question. These need to be on two separate circuits as they interfere with each other if put in series. They are 4.5V LEDs at 30mA so with a 9V feed each LED requires a 150 ohm 1/4W current limiting resistor.

11 June 2012 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 55-1904
Q. Can the 5mm rainbow led be used from a 9v supply with a current limiting resistor? Nigel Morgan (reviewer) suggests no as the current varies as the colour changes.
A. Hi Stuart, thanks for your question. A current limiting resistor could be used, all the colours require a max of 30 ma so if set at this all colors would be unaffected.

03 December 2011 Question by: Rapid Customer | Product code: 55-1904
Q. Can this LED be connected directly to a battery or is a protecting resistor required? Would the LED work adequately with just 3v or are three cells needed (ie 4.5v)? Any idea roughly how long the LED would work from a couple of AA batteries?
A. Thanks for your query, This product will work at 3 volts but really requires a 5v battery. Product life will depend on the ah rating of the battery

Bright, relatively low power; a great way to add some colour to the guitar pedal I'm building.

One of the better colour-changing LEDs available. Operates on 4.5V, but Ive had them running quite well on as low as 2.6 volts - theyre pretty dim, but still running! "Cross-fading" (i.e. each colour fades into the next) colour sequence is approx. 4 seconds of the following colours:- Red, Green, Blue, Yellow, Cyan, Magenta and finally White, then back to Red again and repeated. Really colourful. Note: providing the supply voltage does not exceed 4.5V, these LEDs reqire no current limiting series resistor, nor should one be used as the current drawn varies considerably with the colour displayed.

Simply an awsome component, I have found so many uses for this neat little opto and the list will go on and on, a fantastic product!!

Wow! Stunning, I haven't seen an LED like it in my life! And all encased in a tiny 5mm package! I replaced standard superbright red LEDs in a fibre optic lamp with these and it gives a great effect. Highly recommended to anyone that enjoys electronics!
