The government could find itself in the firing line today (March 4th) over industry fears that the upcoming feed-in-tariff will not be ready for implementation on its scheduled start date of April 1st.
Feed-in-tariffs allow homeowners and businesses to sell any surplus renewable energy they generate by using microgeneration technology at a premium rate back to the National Grid, and it was thought they would provide a welcome boost to the UKs 2020 carbon emission reduction target.
However, a statutory instrument needed to be introduced for the tariff to start has not yet been passed, the Guardian reports.
A key industry figure who did not want to be named told the paper: "The government has basically got a narrowing window of ten days now. Department of Energy and Climate Change officials are being given a hard time about the continuing delays."
This news comes after the Conservative Party made an unofficial pledge to increase the rate at which early adopters of microgeneration are packed back via the scheme.
