The government has announced plans that will see supermarkets and DIY shops offering homeowners green energy makeovers to try and boost the number of properties that adopt microgeneration technology.
Energy and climate change secretary Ed Miliband is expected to make an announcement today (March 2nd) in which he will supply more details about the plans to make Britain´s homes "greener and warmer".
On the scheme, Mr Miliband said: "Helping people save energy at home can make it easier and cheaper to keep homes warm and appliances running. It is also the best way to cut our carbon emissions.
"More people will be able to get the work they want done. That means less energy used which is good for the environment and lower bills which is good for families, particularly when we have cold weather like we did this winter.
The package centres on the Pay As You Save Scheme and will allow homeowners to take out "green home loans" of up to £10,000 via supermarkets and DIY firms to allow the homeowner to pay back the cost of the technology as savings made on their energy bills.
