Recolight, the Croydon-based lamp recycling specialist, is trying to convince councils and supermarkets to triple the number of co-collection points it currently offers for low-energy lightbulbs and waste batteries by 2011, letsrecycle.com reports.
The firm recently implemented collection points at 200 Sainsbury´s supermarkets across the UK, but it is eager to get this figure up to 600.
Nigel Harvey, Recolight´s chief executive, said: "We´re talking to other retailers and also local authorities about taking the same container and making it more widely available.
"We´re hoping to have put 600 of them by the end of 2010 at bring sites."
As a lamp manufacturer Recolight is compliant with the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, but Mr Harvey expressed concerns at news of changes to the expected levels of WEEE recycling.
He argues that changing the current weight-based target to one based on percentage - with a figure of 65 per cent touted - could be "impossible" for the lamp sector to reach.
