Firms in the West Midlands wanting to make sure their practices fall under the recommendations set out by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive may wish to attend new seminars on the subject.
The government´s WEEE regulation enforcer, the Environment Agency, is running advice sessions in the area to help companies reduce the amount of old computers and office equipment sent to landfill.
According to the Birmingham Post, over six million items of WEEE are discarded by the UK each year, equal to one million tonnes of waste.
Hannah Wooldridge, who advises companies on their obligations, said: "To protect the environment the WEEE Regulations were introduced in 2007 to ensure more electrical waste is recycled safely instead of going to landfill."
WEEE compliance scheme Electrolink this week told letsrecycle.com that recent legal battles should not affect the company councils choose for the service.
Rapid is a member of WeeeCare (www.weeecare.com) and is committed to the WEEE regulations. The Rapid membership number is WEE/DJ0003ZR and the Weeecare phone number is 0844 800 2004. All WEEE products are marked with the Weelybin symbol.
