A new project is being developed to light up ten cities across China with LED street lights, according to reports.
Chinese officials have asked leading LED makers from Taiwan to participate in the project and provide their cities with energy-saving bulbs.
A conference between business delegates and government officials from the two countries has been ongoing this week, with the LED scheme unveiled as part of the project.
It is believed that LED bulbs could be used at the ice festival in Harbin and also to illuminate the north-east province capital during its long winter nights.
Li Jinmin, director of the Institute of Semiconductors in China, told Associated Press the scheme is promising for economic co-operation between the countries.
He added: "Taiwan has the manufacturing power, while the mainland has talent and a huge market. With the cooperation, we can jointly tackle the current energy crisis and the financial crisis."
The Sky Tower in Auckland, New Zealand, is now being lit up by LED lights at night, with the lamps replacing old metal halide floodlights.
