Researchers at Swansea University have been awarded a £1.9 million grant for developing nanotechnology solutions for healthcare.
Awarded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC), the grant will allow scientists at the university to investigate improvements to early clot detection over three years.
The prestigious award, part of the EPSRCs Grand Challenge in Nanotechnology for Healthcare project, will help introduce new technologies to detect thromboembolism disease.
Professor Rhodri Williams, lead investigator at the university´s School of Engineering, said: "The project team
will address thromboembolic disease and associated blood coagulation abnormalities that cause significant disease and death in Western society."
A grant was recently won by lecturers at Sheffield College to allow them to visit companies producing cutting-edge technology in order to pass the knowledge on to students, according to the South Yorkshire Star.
