Broadcast studio equipment provider Gennum is to demonstrate new standard digital interface (SDI) products at the National Association of Broadcasters conference this week, including some with three gigabit per second compatibility.
The silicon-based products will allow longer cable length, lower power consumption and more resilience for broadcast equipment, such as cameras, routers, switchers and monitors.
Gennum´s booth will be demonstrating video capture-enabling 15-metre PCIe cables, video optical modules, receiving coaxial cables reaching over 150 metres and second generation routers, all operating at three gigabits a second.
Hugo Gaggioni, chief technology officer for the broadcast and production systems division of Sony Electronics, said: "Gennum continues to drive the development of three gigabits per second SDI technology and we believe these products will help accelerate Sony´s third generation-ready offerings."
Cable developer Torrent recently announced new high-definition multimedia interface (HDMI) connectors with magnetic plugs to stop them being pulled out of sockets.
