Grote Industries, a vehicle safety systems company, has unveiled the development of new paper-thin self-adhesive flexible strips which contain LED lighting technology.
The LightForm, which can be twisted, bended and even cut into shape, will be commercially available by the end of the year, according to the company, which introduced the industry´s first LED marker lamp 20 years ago.
At less than one mm thick, the LED LightForm uses 98 per cent less material than standard LED markers and will be easily attached to vehicles through the elimination of brackets, fasteners and drilling.
The cost of the strips will be competitive with standard LED lights, according to Dominic Grote, vice president of sales and marketing for the company.
He said: "LightForm is a game-changer that will dramatically alter the way the industry uses lighting, while challenging all of our imaginations in the process."
As well as lighting for vehicles, LEDs have been utilised for street lamps, with installations in Osaka, Japan hoping to reduce electricity bills for the area.
