Key Brand - Jolly Phonics
Jolly Phonics is an extremely popular, fun series of learning products for children at Key Stage 1, and a Rapid bestseller.
Phonics is a method of teaching reading, writing and spelling that uses phonetics to help children grasp the connections between letter patterns and sounds. Rather than looking at whole words on the page and trying to memorise what they see, children learn how to identify and link individual letter sounds.
Fun and phonics
Rapid stock a wide range of Jolly Phonics books, Jolly Phonics games, Jolly Phonics CDs, Jolly Phonics DVDs, puppets, posters and activity packs, all produced by the Jolly Learning publishing company, which is committed to improving standards of reading and writing. Characters such as Inky Mouse, Snake and Bee and the aged computer 'Phonic' appear throughout the Jolly Phonics range and make the learning experience full of fun and colour.
Jolly Phonics is taught in five stages: learning the 42 letter sounds, learning letter formation, blending sounds into words, identifying sounds in words and spelling tricky words. The programme is flexible enough to allow for teachers and parents to put their own spin on each stage whilst covering the core Jolly Phonics skills. Parental support is important as children benefit from plenty of praise and encouragement while learning.
The Jolly Phonics programme has been developed in close partnership with Sue Lloyd and Sara Wernham, teachers at a Norfolk primary school. Sue has used phonic methods for many years, developing and improving them from research, advice and the practical experience she and her colleagues have gained. Since introducing their phonics programme Sue and Sara have seen children at the school performing consistently well above average on reading tests.
