In order to function in demanding industrial environments, all front end electrical circuits or PCB’s, such as junction boxes, radio equipment or hand held sensors, require housing in some kind of case or enclosure. There are a huge variety of sizes and styles of products on the market, in plastic, aluminium or non-standard materials.

Electrical enclosures do more than simply contain the hardware; they help protect and style the piece of equipment, and contribute to its effective operation. Enclosures are designed to resist infiltration of dust and water, provide shock and vibration protection, contribute to electromagnetic compatibility [EMC] and control the heat of the components.

Standard enclosures for the electronic and electrical industries are produced to fit most regular sizes and shape of PCB. Custom-made cases are also an option for particular projects. A superficial glance at a moulded or die-cast enclosure may give the impression that it is a simple box, but in reality it is the end result of a vast amount of design work to create the most useful and feature-rich housing, suitable for use in a wide variety of applications and environments.
