REACH

The REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) regulations were introduced by the EU in 2007 to protect human health and the environment from the effects of dangerous chemicals. The regulations affect all businesses in the EU that manufacture, import and distribute chemicals or products containing chemicals in quantities of more than one tonne per year.

Each manufacturer, importer and distributor is expected to register and provide data on the chemical substances with which they are involved. The substances will be evaluated by the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) for their risk and hazardous content. Certain chemicals have been classified as ‘Substances of Very High Concern’ (SVHCs). Actions will then be recommended to those businesses affected by the regulations.

As a distributor of chemicals in quantities of less than one tonne per year, Rapid are exempt from the REACH regulations at the current time. However, we are committed to making our customers and suppliers aware of the impact of these regulations.
