The 168-3CD electronically-controlled soldering station from Xytronic has a 30 x 16mm, 3-digit LED display to accurately indicate the tip temperature of the soldering iron within ±1°C. A single red LED indicator glows when the iron is heating up. The tip temperature of the soldering iron is maintained within ±3°C of any setting between 150 and 480°C, by a temperature sensor located at the end of the heating element and the electronic control circuitry. Temperature selection is via a rotary control on the front panel so there is no need to swap soldering tips.
The Xytronic 168-3CD incorporates a temperature lock to prevent unauthorised changes by the operator. The housing is moulded from tough, heat-resistant PC resin to withstand the rigors of use. The soldering iron is detachable and has a burn-resistant silicone rubber cable fitted with a heavy-duty 5-pin plug with a steel locking ring. For ESD safety, the power unit is solated from the mains power supply by a high-efficiency 24V AC transformer and uses zero-voltage switching circuitry to prevent high voltage leakage and spikes which could damage sensitive components.
