LaserStar Laser Film - Not on this ocassion.

Reviewed by: Dan Matthews - 03 August 2015
I decided to try this film as an alternative to my usual Inkjet OHP transparency film method as I have easy access to a laser printer at work. Unfortunately the results have been very disappointing. My inkjet printer software allows me to adjust the resolution of the print to maximum which results in very dark and defined track artwork blocking the UV during the exposure stage. Unfortunately our standard office colour laser printer does not allow any adjustment to resolution (amount of ink/toner applied to the film) and as a result the artwork proved to be too translucent to provide enough blocking of the UV. There was also an issue with the Greyscale setting as the artwork came out in reverse (tracks were clear instead of black). I tried all settings and used several sheets of the film in the process but nothing proved successful. Back to inkjet method.

As an electronic circuit designer, I found this to be reliable and extremely consistent in terms of quality. It has no grain and always produces great results in terms of print quality and the production of boards with my home-made UV light box and etching tank. As an art teacher it has been recommended for use with light boxes as an alternative method to display work, with a consistent and homogeneous transparency throughout.
