This radio IC is simple to use and provides good results for the more local stations on medium waves, although selectivity is not as good as the conventional radio. For longwave Radio 4 operation it is ideal, provinding a personal headphone radio with a very long battery life. A version has been built encapsulated in clear cast resin which does away with the need for a case, and provides a degree of novelty. The product is ideal for students, to give an insight into radio at a low cost per constructor. The longwave version is useful as an interference sniffer.
