A range of wide angle distance measuring sensor units that have five analogue outputs. The devices consist of a combination of position sensitive detector, five infrared emitting diodes and signal processing circuitry.

The use of five IR diodes gives the devices a wide field of view, with corresponding voltages being output for the detection distance. Performance is further enhanced by using triangulation for sensing, so that variations in object reflectivity, ambient temperature and operating duration do not affect performance.

Suitable applications for these devices include: touch-less switches, energy saving sensors and amusement machines.
