The STK500 is a complete starter kit, programming tool and development system for Atmels AVR microcontrollers.
The AVRs I/O ports are accessible on pin headers that can be used for connecting the on-board LEDs and push button, or external signals. A dedicated RS-232 port can be connected to any of the I/O ports.
The kit is comprised of a development board, serial cable, power supply and user guide on CD-ROM.
Also available are expansion board kits that increase support to include TQFP packages, 64-pin devices and the ATmega169 device.

- Supports In-System Programming in external target systems
- Parallel and serial high-voltage programming
- RS-232 connection to PC
- Sockets for 8-, 20-, 28- and 40-pin AVR devices (plus TQFP and 64-pin devices with expansion board)
- Target voltage 1.8V to 6.0V, supply voltage 9V to 12V
