The AVR Butterfly demonstration kit from Atmel has been designed as a simple to use, low-cost evaluation tool for the AVR architecture range of microcontrollers and in particular the ATmega169. Mounted on a small PCB are an ATmega169 LCD microcontroller, a piezo element for generating sound, integrated temperature sensor, LCD display and a 4Mbit Atmel DataFlash - simulating the elements found in a typical system so that the Butterfly can be used straight out of the box as well as being suitable for more involved programming. Each board comes preloaded with demonstration firmware, including bootloader, that is capable of performing a number of embedded applications including clock and calendar, digital thermometer, digital name tag and jukebox. The demo firmware also utilises the ATmega169 Boot Sector, allowing users to upload code into the device without using external programming hardware. This versatile kit allows designers greater flexibility, with the ab
